The Project 2023
“Art-Rising towards Communal Care and Togetherness”
A James Harvey Estrada Mentorship Program
The Project or Jhe Project 2023 is a performing arts laboratory that will explore the possibility of contemporary performance-making in Rizal. The goal is to provide artists and future artists the platform to explore their themes and research around Rizal and its nearby communities. This year, The Project is co-created with the help of contemporary performance group The Scenius Pro. and Parika Kalye Sining.
The Project or Jhe Project is a short-term term for “James Harvey Estrada Project on Performance Experiments” an artist-led art laboratory that explores enriching the participating artists’ interest in their respective local community and the community’s issues and complex sustainable system in the framework of “care” and “togetherness” practice. Understanding that community is not limited to the geographical location but also to a group of people that share interests, struggles, and advocacies.
The performance laboratory will be under the mentorship of performance-maker, theater-maker, filmmaker, writer, and educator James Harvey Estrada. JHE has been active in Asia making contemporary performances particularly in Malaysia, South Korea, and Japan understanding transnationality, interdisciplinary collaboration, and international togetherness. A thinker towards the future of global performing arts through decolonizing performance practice and building friendships as an impetus to create new performance works. JHE was also an Asian Performing Arts Camp 2018 participant in Tokyo and Yogyakarta and a Theatertreffen International Forum 2023 participant in Berlin.
